Prince Hal and the '46 Tigers eliminate the '68 O's in 4

Game 1:   Hal Newhouser and Dave McNally each threw complete games.  McNally had the better results, allowing only 7 hits against the 11 allowed by Newhouser.  However, McNally gave up two solo homers to Hank Greenberg, the Hebrew Hammer, the second coming in the 6th to break a 3-3 tie.  Brooks Robinson, the Human Vacuum Cleaner, had a two run homer in the 4th.  The Orioles threatened in the 9th when Don Buford singled and Mark Belanger doubled.  Frank Robinson was intentionally walked to load the bases and bring up Boog Powell.  Three strikes later Prince Hal had secured the first win of the tourney.  Tigers 4  Orioles 3

Game 2:  Jim Hardin was magnificent and he had to be.  Dizzy Trout only allowed one run.  Davey Johnson drove home Frank Robby in the 4th with a sacrifice fly.  That was all Hardin needed as he tied the series 1-1.  Orioles 1  Tigers 0

Game 3:  Tom Phoebus simply didn't have it.  The Tigers pounded out 9 hits and scored 8 times in just over 5 innings.  He wasn't on the mound for all the runs as he was pulled with the bases loaded in the 6th for John Morris.  Morris put the game out of reach by allowing a Roy Cullenbine grand slam.  Frank Robby hit a three run homer in the 7th to make the score a little closer.  Fred Hutchinson went the distance for the win.  Greenberg had another solo homer.  Tigers 10  Orioles 4

Game 4:  Newhouser took the mound on 3 days rest, facing Dave Leonhard.   Dick Wakefield put the Tigers ahead with a three run homer in a 4 run 3rd.  Wirth Georgie Kell on 2nd and one out, Greenberg was intentionally walked by Leonhard to bring up Wakefield.  Dick promptly hit his 2nd three run homer.  Prince Hal went the distance, giving up 2 runs.  The Tigers take the series 3-1.  Tigers 10  Orioles 2
